The Wedding Rundown

This is the wedding story of Daniel and Lenny.

When Daniel first sent Lenny a message on Friendster, none of them thought the simple gesture would lead them anywhere. After a few weeks of email correspondence, they decided to meet in person and see if the attraction would translate beyond the internet. And it certainly did.

They dated for more than a year before Daniel proposed to his girlfriend. Here is the story of their wedding day as told by the Groom himself.

The Groom: Daniel Suryadi, 30, IT Executive at Bank Danamon

The Bride: Lenny Lapian, 28, Housewife

The Day: “For me, I never thought this day would come; the day when I finally had my wedding day. It was truly a grace from God that I was able to have this day since not everyone could have the privilege to celebrate a wedding,” shares Daniel.

He confessed that he almost couldn’t sleep the night before his wedding day. He was trying to repeat over and over again his wedding promise that he would say in front of God, Pastor, and the church community.

Finally, morning came. Daniel woke up at 3 am, and together with Lenny, they arrived at the salon at 4 am and got their make-up service right away.

At 7 am, the couple headed to the church for their wedding ceremony.

The Ceremony: Daniel’s best friend took the role of the best man, the driver, and also the wedding organizer. Another friend of his was entrusted to be the worship leader in this Christian solemnization.

It started at 9 am sharp with several worship songs, continued with the couple’s entrance with a song “How Great” from Hillsong.

The pastor then gave a speech about marriage life in Jesus, and the couple was ready for the ceremonial climax: wedding ring blessing and pronouncing their wedding promise.

“I was very nervous at first, but once I looked into her eyes I knew that she was the one for me,” Daniel shared. “And then everything went smoothly.”

The Pastor announced them as husband and wife, witnessed by the couple’s closest families and friends. “It was an indescribable feeling,” the groom confesses.

The joyous occasion proceeded with the couple taking turns to say thank you to their parents for their guidance and blessings. It was a truly touching moment as Lenny’s parents shed tears of joy for their only daughter.

After the Pastor blessed the congregations, the ceremony came to an end at 10 am. It was followed by photo-taking sessions of the happy couple together with their family and friends that lasted until 11am.

Happy Ending: Daniel could only sum up the day with one sentence as he told Wedding and Travel later on, “Wow, it was an amazing day.”

Indeed it was. There began the couple’s new journey in marriage: a life as husband and wife.

Souk?

Hi all!

Last weekend I just had a movie-marathon of Prince of Persia and Sex and The City 2! Alright, I know I’m a tad late to see those movies. Most of my friends have watched them since last week, I was way behind the wagon. LOL!

But, better late than never, right? So I did! And despite the bad reviews of Sex and The City at almost all the newspapers that I read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really fun and entertaining!

And for those of you who have seen it, you know, the girls went to Saudi Arabia and checked out the souk! Haha. I thought about our own Wedding Souk and how the inspiration came about.

What? I’m not making sense? Well, our next wedding exhibition will be called Wedding Souk. Check out our website www.wedding-travel.com for a bit of introduction of the event. We’ll continue updating it as we get nearer to the date. What do you guys think about it? Wouldn’t it be interesting to have the same concept as the original souk in the Middle Eastern countries to shop for all wedding related needs?

Thanks for stopping by! And hope you all have a wonderful day.

The Special Anniversary Gift

This is the love story of Maggie and Phillippe.

During Bridal Bazaar, our previous wedding exhibition in Suntec City, I met Maggie and Phillippe, a lovely and friendly duo who had a special story to share. They have been married for nearly three years, so one might wonder, what were they doing at a wedding fair?

The groom: Phillippe Ma, 30, Fund Accountant
The bride: Maggie Law, 30, Primary School Teacher

Maggie and Phillippe were both born in Hong Kong, but they migrated to Singapore in the early 90s, and met each other eight years ago. They got married in 2007, and their 3rd year wedding anniversary is coming soon.

During Maggie’s pregnancy to their first son, baby Mason, she has gained over 20 kg. Even though most of those baby weights have been shred off after giving birth, she was still 8 kg heavier than her pre-pregnancy days.

This was when her fun-loving husband, Phillippe, came in. He wanted to give her wife a special present to celebrate their wedding anniversary, while at the same time, give Maggie the motivation to lose some kgs!

So the couple bought a wedding anniversary photography package from Bluebay and they are set to embark to Taiwan this June! It is going to be a romantic and memorable trip too because they didn’t get the chance to have pre-wedding shoots before. “We are now looking forward to the trip to Taiwan for the photo shoot!” Maggie said excitedly.

In the mean time, she is trying to reach her ideal weight before the trip, because who doesn’t want to look their best in pictures? Especially in something as special and ‘festive’ like this?

Thank you, Maggie and Phillippe for sharing your love story with us! And we hope you have the most romantic and memorable moments on your special photoshoot!

A Love Story Comes Full Circle

This is the real wedding story of Davin and Indah.

Davin has been a mutual friend of mine for many years and I was very happy to hear about his wedding ceremony back in 2008! We chatted through emails as he happily relived his most memorable day, one that I was lucky enough to attend.

The groom: Davin Hadikusuma, 26, Project Sales Executive

The bride: Indah Sari Setiawan, 27, Housewife

When: It was a bright, sunny afternoon on July 5, 2008 when Davin and Indah exchanged vows in front of their family and friends to be husband and wife.

Where: The couple held their wonderful wedding ceremony at the Church of St. Mary of The Angels. “It is one of the most beautiful catholic churches in Singapore,” Davin shares. He and Indah were both active members of the Catholic church’s youth council back in St. Bernadette and it was all the more special to hold their wedding at God’s altar which has brought them together.

The Preparation: It took them 6 months to organize, but Davin and Indah got many support and help from their friends in the church to arrange the programs for their special day. For a task which seemed impossible to do without a wedding organizer, they managed to hold a smooth and beautiful wedding ceremony and reception!

The Highlight: The entire wedding ceremony was unforgettable for them both, but Davin shares one particular endearing moment that he would always recall with a laugh.

It was during the exchange of wedding rings. One of the rings accidentally slipped and fell down to the floor. The moment was funny to Davin because instantaneously the audience let out loud surprised gasps.

They shared a laugh, picked up the ring, and he put it on his bride’s finger. Properly this time, of course.

The Reception:It was held at the Church’s Piazza right after the ceremony where the guests could approach and congratulate the couple, and also mingle with others.

Tents were set up and beautiful music was playing as a background as this joyous occasion continued in full swing. “We liked the idea of a garden party, to have the celebration in an open space. We thought it would make it unique,” the groom says.

And unique it was. During the reception, the husband and wife surprised and entertained the guests by singing a song “Looking through the Eyes of Love”. It was truly an endearing moment.

Buffet spread for the reception was provided by Smiling Orchid. “The design was excellent, and so was the taste. We were very satisfied,” Davin tells me.

He shares a tip for couples who may be planning to have an outdoor reception. “Try not to select certain kinds of food that may be trickier to manage, such as curry and soup.”

The Wardrobe: Volans Couture provided all the wedding gowns and suits. In addition, they also did the couple’s pre-wedding and wedding shoots, which was summed up by the groom as “a job well-done”.

Latest Update: A year has gone by since their wedding day, and now the newlyweds just welcomed their first newborn: baby boy Richie!

Congratulations, Davin and Indah! More beautiful and unforgettable moments surely await you with this new addition to your family!

The Proposal That Melts Our Hearts

This is the real love story of Wee Ming and Meixin.

I met this lovely couple the first time a few months ago when they came down to Wedding and Travel office to collect a lucky draw prize. Yes! Indeed they were the lucky winners for a prize trip to Phuket from our previous lucky draw. During the meet-up, they friendly duo shared the story of how Wee Ming popped the question to his long-time girlfriend.

The groom-to-be: Peh Wee Ming, 25, Engineer Executive

The bride-to-be: Hwang Meixin, 25, Marketing Assistant

The Beginning: The first time Wee Ming met Meixin was during their attachment when both of them were still studying in Singapore Polytechnic. They were assigned to the same floral gift shop, but were working in different departments. At first, he didn’t have the courage to strike up a conversation with her because “our friends were always around,” he admitted.

But his moment came one day when he saw Meixin alone, walking from the washroom. He greeted her, and this brief encounter ended in an exchange of numbers.

The First Date: They went for their first date six years ago. They were both 19. “I think we just went for a movie and dinner at Cineleisure. I don’t even remember what movie we saw,” said Meixin. But it started everything, and fast forward to now, their relationship is still going strong.

The Anniversary Dinner: It was their six-year anniversary dinner when Wee Ming planned his surprise proposal. He made a reservation at Flutes at the Fort, a beautiful and cosy restaurant at Fort Canning Hill. All this while, Meixin thought they were celebrating their anniversary.

But he had bigger things planned for the evening.

The couple enjoyed a delectable appetizer and the main course, but little did Meixin know that Wee Ming has prepared a very special dessert. The waiter brought over a chocolate dessert. It was a plate of beautifully-arranged chocolate and cheese cake with vanilla ice cream and drapes of crepes and peanuts. There, at the top of the plate, the words “Will You Marry Me?” were delicately written with chocolate cream.

He also presented her with a gorgeous bouquet of red roses. On each flower, embroidered in gold, was the one question he couldn’t wait to ask. Meixin got the surprise of her life as his boyfriend knelt down in front of her and popped the question.

A Reason to Celebrate: She said, “Yes!” and told Wedding and Travel, “How could you say no to that?”

And so, they were officially engaged! And there began another chapter in their lives: the road to marriage.

Congratulations, Meixin and Wee Ming! Thank you for sharing your special love story with us.

Happy Ever After for the High School Sweethearts

This is the real wedding story of Allen and Pamela.

Allen is the Director of Defu Furniture, whom Wedding and Travel has worked with for years. I got in touch with him and his wife, Pamela a few months ago. They are extremely lovely and friendly people who happily shared with me their joyous wedding day story!

The groom: Allen Lim, 27, Director of Defu Furniture

The bride: Pamela Neo, 27, Finance Executive

There’s a saying that a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. Allen and Pamela were both only 15 when they became a couple, but it certainly wasn’t just a puppy love. After 12 years together, they were still madly in love.

On 21 November 2009, the couple tied the knot at The Ritz Carlton Milenia, Singapore, attended by their beloved family and friends. Here is the breakdown of their beautiful wedding.

The Theme: The ballroom of The Ritz Carlton was decorated with burgundy roses and green fruity scosa, so were the pedestals that were placed along the aisle. The pedestals were 9-arm candlelabras, so the ballroom was red with tinges of candle lights, which gave an aura of warmth and passion.

The couple’s best friends wore colors-coordinated dresses and suits for the special occasion. The six ‘brothers’ had purple shirts on, which matched the sash color of the ‘sisters’ dresses.

The Preparation: Allen and Pamela confirmed the venue for their big day in February 2009, and then were on the hunt for the wedding package. They happened to visit a wedding fair organized by W&T on the same month and were fascinated by the exquisite gown designs and overseas wedding photography offered by Julia Wedding News. They signed up and had a wonderful pre-wedding photos taken in Taiwan.

Pamela confessed that the next few months leading up to the wedding day were really hectic as a lot of arrangements had to be made. The hotel outsourced the florist that they used for the big day, as well as the printing company called Dreamweavers, who handled the invitation cards and wedding favors.

In the midst of making the itinerary for the big day, arranging the guest list (which Pamela thought was the most complicated task!) and doing numerous gown and suit fittings, the couple admitted of feeling overwhelmed but thankfully they had a friend who helped them in the wedding preparation since day one.

The Music: They booked a band from Yours Truly to play for two sets for the night. Comprising of two singers and one keyboardist, the band entertained the guests with mixture of English and Chinese songs. They also brought along dedication cards for the guests to leave a message to the couple and dedicate songs. The singers acted as emcess, charming the audience with their jokes.

The Suits and Gowns: The couple had three gowns and two suits from Julia Wedding News. For Pamela, it was one white wedding gown, one ROM dress and one evening gown. Allen had a white suit for the day and a black tuxedo for the night. He had his shirts all tailored to match the suits.

Pamela’s wedding gown had an empire cut and a very long train. She had requested for a long train as she wanted a grand walk-in into the ballroom. The Ritz Carlton has a long straight aisle which made the bride’s entrance even more expansive.

The Highlight: Academy Video (AV) made an interview video of Allen and Pamela being asked separately about each other. Questions asked for instance were, “what is sexy about Allen?” to Pamela, and “what is one thing that you can’t stand about Pamela?” to Allen. “We had the most honest answers, I must say,” confessed Pamela jokingly. It was really memorable because the video was well-edited with background music and a story board that was done perfectly!

Another unforgettable moment during the reception was when the couple had their first and second march-ins to the ballroom. Party poppers and strings were popped when they walked down the aisle, creating a colorful rainfall effect that looks really beautiful in pictures.

Congratulations, Allen and Pamela! And thank you for sharing with us your wonderful wedding story!
