Disney Japan!

One of my friends went to magical Disneyland + Disney Sea at Chiba, Japan. How’s that for the perfect fairytale ending!

Well the story goes that she couldn’t decide to go to Disneyland or Disney Sea for the honeymoon so her husband was sweet enough to let her go to BOTH places AND stay overnight at the suite at Disney Hotel… supposedly even the tap’s gold! How’s that for a reaaallly LUCKY girl! *envious*

We always think that Disney’s just for the kids, but we forget that it can be equally romantic for 2 adults to have some innocent fun together! Have a day when you abandon all restraint and just be happy in this neverland!

For the hopeless romantics, here’s a tip for you: splash out on that high-level room overlooking the magical lights of Disney at night, order some champagne from room service and snuggle close to your loved one! When all the day visitors go home, and Disney regains its calm, that’s when you’ll feel like you’re on the top of this world ;)

Takayama, Gifu, Japan

Takayama

If you happen to be the type who favours small, tranquil places, Takayama at Gifu, Japan will definitely be the place for you.

Takayama is pretty much a quaint small town where the main attraction in town is the old street (machi). ideal for a leisurely three-day stopover as a breather in your jet-packed holiday, takayama is a place where you can fully relax and just take in the sights and sounds at your own pace. visit the morning market just to have a feel of the local people’s friendliness and to take your pick of breakfast from the various stalls. catch all the hustle and bustle before the town quietens again as the morning market fades away.

if you are visiting takayama in winter, you’ll be in for a great visual treat when you visit the famous shirakawa houses. located just about half an hour away from takayama town, the beauty of the shirakawa houses in the dead of winter is what initially put takayama on the tourist radar. just so you could know, the rooftops of these shirakawa houses were specially designed in this shape to withstand the region’s heavy snowfall. have your eyes peeled as your bus nears the shirakawa houses, because the sight of all these white arched rooftops under your eyes as your bus slowly descends on them is one that you will never forget. once there, slowly explore the houses for a good half-day before retiring back to takayama town for the night.

when you’re fully recharged after your stopover, carry on with the rest of your trailblazing on your honeymoon. but chances, i bet you’ll find it difficult to leave tranquil takayama behind ;)

Hanami, Japan

Someiyoshino

While we’re on the topic of flowers, how about considering going to Japan for your honeymoon during the cherry blossom season for some hanami (meaning ‘to look at the flowers’ literally)?

imagine watching the famous someiyoshino cherry blossoms (picture above) while walking hand in hand with your partner, petals softly fluttering from above to the floor. perfectly romantic isn’t it? here’s a tip: try to avoid times when there’re too many tourists. most tourists come for the hanami as a day trip so if you can afford to, try to find an accommodation in the town of the hanami. when the sun sets and the tourists go home in their buses, that’s when you can enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms at your own sweet pace!

a good place to go for hanami would definitely be kyoto. apart from the fact that kyoto has some of the best hanami spots in japan, the city is also brimming with the classical beauty of old-world japan that will wow any visitor, first-time or not. opt to stay in one of the many exquisitely-preserved ryokans in kyoto to have a taste of the authentic japanese experience. most ryokans will come with their own japanese-style bath and can prepare course meals if informed in advanced so it’ll definitely be one cosy stay! apart from watching the cherry blossoms in kyoto, you can also go down the numerous back-alleys in search of the beautiful shadow of a geisha. Try evenings for some geisha-spotting.

Furano, Hokkaido, Japan

Furano Lavender Fields

For a perfect summer honeymoon, what about the famous lavender fields at Furano, Hokkaido, Japan? I think there’s definitely something about standing in the middle of millions of flowers that makes one feel like the most beautiful bride :) (Well, that is if you can try to ignore the other tourists around you)

Another thing about travelling in Japan is the whole experience of it. It is not only the destination that brings you a sense of satisfaction but it’s the process of getting there. Open only during the lavender season, Japan Railways has thoughtfully put in a lavender train station which will have you alight just beside the boundless stretches of lavender fields. Now that’s a magical way of getting there.

Lavender Ice-cream

And you can definitely expect the meticulous Japanese to think of this, but there’s no better way of immersing yourself in the whole lavender experience by biting into one of these icy cold lavender ice-creams! All the better for letting off some heat in the hot summer days… :)

Apart from lavenders, the area of Furano and around is famous for many other flowers during other seasons as well. So if you’re travelling outside of lavender season (around Jul-Aug), you could check the web for information on what other flowers are blooming then… :)

Hope that’ll get both of you to 心花朵朵开!~
